Myth- A princess gives birth to two twins, Romulus and Remus. The king of Rome was afraid that the twins would one day take his throne, so he ordered his men to drown them in the river. Before the drowned a she-wolf rescued them and raised them. When they had grown up they built a city on the banks of the river the wolf rescued them from. The two fought over who would rule the new city. Romulus eventually killed his brother and named the city Rome.
Fact- The first Romans were comprised of Latin tribes, who had invaded Italy around 1000 B.C.E. By 700 B.C.E, a Latin tribe built a village on the Palatine hill that eventually became the empire of Rome.
